Mission & Vision
The Competition at Johann Sebastian Bach Music Centre (Hong Kong) is organized in cooperation with Young Talents New Academy Brussels. It is intended to strengthen pupils’ confidence in their performance abilities. It is not to be competitive amongst one another or between the same grade students. Each participant should gain an overall positive experience which will help to boost their willingness to practise and to improve.
Also, the JSBM Competition will be a meaningful middle step on the preparation path for other national or international competitions. Unlike many other competitions, there will be no winners or losers, as instead, we shall be finding something praiseworthy in each performance. Your child’s confidence will be therefore enhanced by this approach.
Our ultimate goal is to further enrich our programme for gifted young musicians in order to support and assist those of our students who are dedicated to become professional musicians in the future.
Additionally, each child will receive a certificate of participation to highlight an element of their performance strength.

Composition Competition
The Composition Competition at JSBM Hong Kong is organized in cooperation with our sister school in Vienna Johann Sebastian Bach Musikschule Wien. The format this year is as follows:
- the theme this year is “celebration”
- write a music work (own composition) in TWO parts
- perform & video tape it
There are four age categories:
This responds to the current pandemic - related limitations on going out and performing in the public, as the whole process can be done at home or in the neighborhood. The idea is that the children, while at home or playing outside, can experiment with their own musical instruments (if they play and have any) or use different objects from their surroundings to produce sound and noises, which could be organized in a music piece. The piece should be submitted in a written form (use notation or playing guidance) and performed (video taped).
Please create a folder on Google drive and share with the above mentioned. Submit two documents (music score and video file of the performance) + your contact details (name, telephone, birthday, correspond address) by email to jsbm.hk@gmail.com (Subject "JSBM Composition Competition 2022") or use this for your submission:
- The deadline for submission is 10th of May 2022. The results will be announced by the end of May 2022.
Fees: The participation in the competition is free. However, there will be certificates & trophies (including Merit, Distinction and certificate of participation) application fees and $200 HKD postage.
